Under 10's

Home vs Dorking
Friday 16 May 2008 at Worplesdon

The team coped very well with their first experience of playing with a hard ball, helped by a brand new set of kit including state of the art pads. It also included a set of cricket boxes, which was the hardest thing to get used to for all. I suggest they all get 'athletic supports' or at least wear a pair of tight swiming trunks over their boxer shorts to tuck boxes into - we may get even more runs!!

Callum Black won the toss and elected to field. The bowling and fielding were good with Jack Oliver taking 2 wickets in 2 balls and both George Mason and Callum taking 1 each. With good support they restricted Dorking to 249. Special mention for Tudor Forbes whose first experience of keeping wicket in a helmet was a positive one! He also batted well along with the rest of the team to end with 279 and a 30 run victory.

Away vs Frensham
Sunday 18 May 2008 at Frensham

Once the belegured coach and parents had found the (lovely) ground using their websites out of date instructions and incorrect map, we again won the toss and chose to field. Having kept wicket for some overs Tudor Forbes, WBCC's undoubted man of the match, came on to bowl and take 2 exceptional caught and bowled chances. George Mason also took 2 wickets and Jake Tayler and Robbie Davies 1 each (Robbie's with his first ball of the season). Callum Black took a catch at slip and helped to limit Frensham to 255.

When WBCC batted all the pairs made positive contributions and the calling and running between the wickets put pressure on the fielding side. The last pair, with Tudor sealing his award with 3 cracking boundaries and Callum playing a solid skippers knock made the win comfortable.

Away vs Blackheath
Sunday 25 May 2008 at Blackheath (Wonersh ground)

Thanks to Andy Vick for looking after the boys, as I was at Twickenham for the International 7's Rugby. Tudor Forbes, the captain, won the toss and we took 10 wickets and bowled very few extras. They, on the other hand, conceded lots so we didn't need to score that many to win 269 to 249.

Home vs Guildford
Friday 30 May 2008

Callum Black, returning as captain, won the toss (that's 4 in a row for us) and we took the field looking to find out just how far we've progressed against another top of the table side. Some early tight bowling from Connor Laing gave the lie to the fact that the Guildford batting line up was strong and they ended the innings with 307, over 30 more than we'd managed so far this season. George Mason was again in the wickets with 2 and Tudor Forbes took one, before taking over the gloves, as did Callum as the innings ended with minus 4 to Guildford. Too many short '4 balls' which they put away made the total formidable.

In the field all contributed but as usual, Alex and Samuel O'Shea shone and Jake Tayler made some excellent stops. Callum took decent catch and Jack Oliver a sharp chance off the glove behind the wicket but the highlight was George's throw from the boundary...not the Under 10's boundary but the long adult boundary on the far side. What are Anne and Alex feeding him?!

In reply, we were off to a slow start and though runs came we lost a total of 13 wickets, i.e. 42 runs, during the innings. However, the boys stuck at their task well and Nick Bell, Jack and Jake's innings all included some lusty blows. However, far and away the best period of the innings was Tudor Forbes and Callum's final partnership which yeilded 31 runs and drew cheers from the home supporters at the end.
